Kootenay Area Bursary

OBJECTIVES:
1. To assist active members of the Girl Guides of Kootenay Area with the cost of post-secondary education.
2. To honour a member’s participation in Guiding and to encourage their continuation in Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada.

BURSARY AGES 17-24
A maximum of four (4) bursaries will be awarded annually to Kootenay Area Guiding Members between the ages of 17-24, of $500.00 per recipient, at the discretion of the Kootenay Area Awards Committee.

ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for this bursary the applicant must be:
1. A self-identified woman or non-binary person between the ages of 17 – 24 at the time of submission and presently registered in Guiding within the Kootenay Area. Must be at least in Grade 12 or equivalent studies.
2. Active in Girl Guides of Canada and has been involved for the immediate past three (3) years.
3. Applicant is planning on pursuing or already pursuing a program of full-time studies (at least 60% of standard course load or 40% if you have a permanent disability) at a recognized post-secondary institution (i.e. university, college, vocational school).
4. The recipient is to continue their involvement in Girl Guides of Canada in some capacity (i.e. unit, community, district, area, or national).
5. They have shown participation within their community and is a good citizen.


BURSARY AGES 25+
Two (2) bursaries will be awarded annually to Kootenay Area Guiding members age 25 years or older, of $500.00 per recipient, at the discretion of the Kootenay Area Awards Committee.

ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for this bursary the applicant must be:
1. Self-identified women and non-binary persons age 25 years or older at the time of submission and presently registered in Guiding within the Kootenay Area.
2. Active in Girl Guides of Canada and has been involved for the immediate past three (3) years.
3. Applicant is planning on pursuing or already pursuing a program of full-time studies. (at least 60% of standard course load or 40% if you have a permanent disability) at a recognized post- secondary institution (i.e. university, college, vocational school).
4. The recipient is to continue their involvement in Girl Guides of Canada in some capacity (i.e. unit, community, district, area, or national).
5. They have shown participation within their community and is a good citizen.


GUIDELINES FOR BOTH BURSARIES:
1. Bursary monies allocated will be issued only after proof of registration has been received by the Girl Guides of Canada Kootenay Area Awards Committee.
2. Bursary monies must be applied to tuition and/or books.
3. The bursary must be used within 2 years of award notification after which time it will no longer be available to the specific recipient.
4. No Guiding member will receive a Kootenay Area bursary in 2 consecutive years or 2 in one year.

Candidate will be evaluated, and points awarded (as indicated on application) on the following:
● Guiding involvement
● Service/Volunteer positions outside of Guiding
● Applicant’s letter on their future plans, how Guiding has influenced their life and how they plan to continue their involvement in Guiding
● Recommendations, one from within Guiding and one from outside of Guiding.
